“The Esan Youths in Edo State declared on Saturday that the victory of Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, in the September 21 governorship election was a foregone conclusion.

“There is no alternative to Monday Okpebholo in the upcoming governorship election,” they stated. Okpebholo’s governorship, they said, was an idea whose time had come. “It’s time to rescue Edo State from the brink of chaos and catastrophe. Monday Okpebholo will usher in transformation and accountability.

“Reading from a prepared text, the President General of Esan Youths Movement, Pastor Jonathan Omozokpia, said Okpebholo’s governorship ambition was practically signed, sealed, and delivered. “Monday Okpebholo has built a vast network of friends across Nigeria and abroad. He is a grassroots favorite and will undoubtedly win the September 21 governorship election in Edo State.”The youths emphasized that Okpebholo’s governorship ambition was a response to the clarion call by well-meaning individuals, including traditional rulers, prominent politicians, and Edo professionals in Nigeria and abroad.

“We want a governor who can spearhead a rebirth and lead Edo State away from backwardness to true greatness.” They dismissed the governorship ambition of Asue Ighodalo, describing him as a complete outsider and stranger in Esanland. “Monday Okpebholo shares our values. Many people are tired of inept and self-serving leaders who are unable to dream big for Edo State. They are tired of mediocrity and selfishness.”

The youths also criticized Governor Godwin Obaseki for disappointing the good people of Edo State. “We need to break away from the past and save Edo State from ruins. There has been too much rhetoric but little action in Edo State. There is a lot of regression in several areas.” They praised PDP members who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing their move as a “bold step towards redemption.”
