A former House of Representatives aspirant for Ede/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency in Osun State, Mr. Ayodele Asalu, has said the current reforms by the present government are in the country’s interest.

Asalu also said the biting hardship of the moment was meant to correct past errors and reposition Nigeria for greatness.

The APC chieftain, in a statement obtained in Osogbo, Osun State capital, on Thursday, however, called on Nigerians to believe in the vision of President Bola Tinubu notwithstanding the tough economic conditions that the Federal Government’s petroleum sector reforms have brought on Nigerians.

He also charged public servants at all levels of governance to diligently play their parts in ensuring the success of Tinubu’s reforms, urging particularly state governors to avoid sabotaging efforts of the Federal Government in the interest of the Nigerians.

Asalu said, “One of the greatest problems we have in the country today is the poor value of the Naira, which is a result of our over-dependence on the importation of essential items, chief of which is refined petroleum products.

“One of the tough decisions that the government must make, therefore, is to reform the petroleum industry such that we can refine locally and end our over-dependence on foreign exchange.

“Once this happens, we can cool our excessive need for foreign exchange, stabilize the value of the Naira, and achieve the much-desired economic prosperity for all Nigerians.

“It is a long road for us, but a necessary journey that we must undertake, to permanently fix the errors of our distant and recent past, and finally make sense of all the natural resources that we have been blessed with as a people.

“These reforms are in the best interest of Nigeria and we have the rare opportunity to be the generation of people who make the necessary sacrifice to secure our long-term survival.”

He also implored all political parties in the country to rally support for Tinubu for different measures of the current administration to achieve the intended target.
