in Awka Anambra Commissioner of Police orders investigation into lifeless body of baby found in a bag in Awka The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has ordered an immediate investigation into the lifeless body of a baby found in a sack at a refuse dump along Ifite Road, Awka, the state’s capital on Sunday, June 2. Preliminary investigations revealed the child, probably a day old, was abandoned by a yet to be identified woman suspected to be the mother. Meanwhile, the body has been recovered and the Police are currently working with some eyewitness information at the scene for possible arrest of the perpetrator. Confirming the development to newsmen, the spokesperson of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the CP decries moral decay in Society and describes the act as ungodly, barbaric, and inhuman. He also urges Parents/Guardians to pay greater attention to children/wards and call on anyone with useful information that can aid the investigation to come forward to the Police Command headquarters in this regard.
