The Benue chapter of the All Progressives Congress has successfully elected chairmanship and councillorship candidates for the local government elections scheduled for 5th October 2024.

Speaking to journalists in Makurdi on Friday, the Caretaker Organising Secretary and Spokesman of the APC Caretaker Committee in the state, James Ornguga, said the primaries were conducted smoothly.

According to Ornguga, the party successfully elected 23 chairmanships and 276 councillorship candidates for the forthcoming elections. He stated, “All local governments in the state have concluded their primaries and submitted the results to the caretaker committee.”

Ornguga praised party members for their peaceful conduct during the primary election and commended the aspirants for their discipline during the screening exercise on 1st and 2nd September 2024.

He added, “APC is pleased that no violence was reported during the process, and those with concerns regarding the screening exercise approached the Barr. Moses Atagher-led Screening Appeal Committee, which addressed all cases.”

Ornguga mentioned that the Primary Election Appeal Committee has begun addressing petitions arising from the conduct of the primaries. He called for cooperation and understanding from party members to ensure the overall success of the electoral process.

The results showed that Mr Timothy Adi won the chairmanship ticket in Gwer East, while Mr Guda Terkura secured the ticket in Vandiekya LGA. Other winners include Mr Joseph Keffi in Makurdi, Mr Jonathan Modi in Ukum, and Mr Kumasuun Tyowase in Ushongo.

Ornguga further listed the winners in other local governments, noting that the process was transparent and successful.

Meanwhile, the Agada-led executive committee, which was dissolved by the national working committee, had earlier claimed to have conducted its primaries and released names of candidates for the upcoming local government elections.
