Sonia Ekweremadu, one of the daughters of Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has taken to Instagram to beg for a kidney donor.
The 25-year-old explained that she had to drop out of her postgraduate studies in 2019 because she was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease called FSGS Nephrotic Syndrome.
She said her family has battled to save her life and this led to her parents facing charges directly connected to her illness.
The Media and Communications graduate said she presently receives 5 hours of dialysis 3 to 4 times a week and this is at the expense of her family.
“The last three years have been extremely challenging,” she wrote.
She then begged Nigerians to come to her aid, writing: “I, Sonia Ekweremadu, hereby appeal to the general public to come to my aid and save my life.”
“I am appealing to anybody to whom it may please to assist me willingly with a kidney donation in the name of God,” she added.
She explained that her family members would have willingly donated to her, but her case is a genetic illness and any donation from a family member means the illness will likely reoccur.
