Ike Ekweremadu, a former deputy senate president, and his wife Beatrice have sued the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in Abuja’s Federal High Court over the controversy surrounding David Ukpo’s actual age as an alleged organ donor.
The pair was detained by the British Metropolitan Police last week on suspicion of organ harvesting.
They were later charged with conspiring to facilitate Ukpo’s travel, who is said to be a child, for the purpose of harvesting organs before the Uxbridge Magistrate Court.
The pair, however, refuted the accusations, and the court continued the case for a hearing on July 7.
According to reports that surfaced over the weekend, Ukpo was actually 21 years old and not 15, unlike what various sources had said.
The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Stanbic-IBTC Bank, United Bank of Africa, and Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc are additional respondents in the lawsuit.
The Ekweremadus requested that the court order the NIMC to provide them with the Certified True Copy (CTC) of Ukpo’s biodata in the lawsuit they filed through their attorney, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN).
The couple also asked the court to order the respondents to divulge the pertinent details on the boy so they could establish their innocence.
