Enroll your children in only govt approved schools, Anambra tells parents

[ad_1]

As schools get set to resume for the first term of the 2024/2025 academic session, the Anambra State Government, through the state Ministry of Education, has warned parents to enrol their children only in government-approved schools across the state.

The state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, said any parent who sent their child to an “illegal” school shall be treated as accomplices in any prosecution and would be made to bear the consequences of their action.

Chuma-Udeh stated this in a press statement on Wednesday, adding that parents should make early arrangements for their children/wards’ school enrollment.

She lamented that proprietors of unrecognised schools only gather children and keep them in rooms without any teacher, thereby resulting in the children attacking and injuring each other.

She said, “Parents are advised to make early arrangements and enroll their children only in government-recognised schools in Anambra State.

“Any parent that registers a child in a non-government recognised school shall be ready to bear the consequences of such action.

“Unrecognised schools such as some recently shut down ones in the state are badly run. The proprietors just gathered the children and keep them without any teacher, resulting to the attack on each other by the children and inflicting serious bodily injuries, just as it was the case of some schools where children are reportedly inflicted with injuries.

“The children in such unrecognised schools shall not be allowed to affiliate and partake in state examinations, while their parents shall be treated as accomplices in any prosecution against the proprietors.”

Chuma-Udeh also reiterated the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s position on the right of the child saying, “every child belongs to the State and any infringement against the child’s right to quality education shall be seriously viewed by the State.”
