Enugu at 31: Founding fathers stood for sacrifice, progressivism – APC chieftain, Ada Ogbu

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Enugu State, Princess Ada Ogbu has hailed the founding fathers of the Coal City State for their sacrifices.

In a statement to mark the 31st anniversary of the State’s creation, she recalled the selfless commitment of Professor Godwin Odenigwe, HRH Eze Nathan Ogbu, the Eze Odenigbo 1 of Nara Unateze, Chief Christian Chukwuma Onoh, HRH Igwe Edward Nnaji, Chief Enechi Onyia, HRH Igwe Charles Abangwu, Chief Basil Okwu, HRH Igwe John Ugwu Nwodo, among others.

Ogbu, the senatorial candidate of the APC for Enugu East Senatorial zone, said such selfless efforts should be replicated by the people of the State, stressing that that would lead to a steady progress.

“As a proud Wawa woman, on this auspicious day, I recall vividly when I was much younger and the identity of a Wawa woman always makes me sad, and teary.

“I recall vividly when this struggle began 31 years back, when the founding fathers, Professor Godwin Odenigwe, HRH Eze Nathan Ogbu, the Eze Odenigbo 1 of Nara Unateze, Chief Christian Chukwuma Onoh, HRH Igwe Edward Nnaji, Chief Enechi Onyia, HRH Igwe Charles Abangwu, Chief Basil Okwu, HRH Igwe John Ugwu Nwodo, and a host of others stood for transparency, credibility, doggedness, sacrifice, progressivism, and foresightedness.

“These qualities were what led to the creation of the New Enugu state.

“I urge Ndi – Enugu to bring back these qualities to play now as we most need them. Qualities that contain a deep desire to bring positive change to the people. A desire to be independent. A desire to help her people. And we must bring back these qualities. We must actually see to this change,” she said.

She further stated that, “the period we are in has been politically charged and filled with a legion of activities, mainly electioneering, with many pitching tents, many changing tents, a few others have been left confused, and the remaining few seemingly indecisive.

“There has been a yearning desire that lurked in the hearts of many Nigerians, it has transcended every known human barricade; the desire for a better Nigeria, a better state, a better local government area council, better institutions, and all down the lines.

“We have currently, a national wave blowing vigorously and being felt by all, even the indecisive, and this breeze has touched our dear State, Enugu, and her senatorial districts, with specific emphasis on Enugu East Senatorial District.

“This wind has refused to be stopped or to give way to the old order. This wind is bent on shaking things down to their roots, the old system is giving way to a new way. As Oedipus in Oedipus Rex by Sophocles puts it, ‘we must put away the evil thing’, to get the new Enugu of our dream,” she declared.
