FG Drags ASUU To Court As Negotiation Fails

The Federal Government (FG) he dragged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as attempt to reach an agreement has failed.
The Ministry of Labor had filed a case against the union at the Industrial Arbitration Court in Abuja as hearing commences on Monday the 12th of September, 2022.
FG challenged the continued strike by the union in conformity with Section 17 of the Trade Dispute Act.
Several meetings have been held between the two parties but no progress as been recorded since ASUU embarked on strike in February this year.
Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Education had noted earlier that FG cannot sign an agreement with the union that it will not be able to fulfill. He said that 23.5 percent increase in the salaries of the lecturers was offered by the government and while professors are to enjoy 35 percent upward. N150 billion was promised by the government which will be contained in the 2023 budget as funds for the revitalization of universities and to be disbursed to institutions in the first three months of next year.
