The Federal Housing Authority has announced plans to address unauthorised buildings and irregular property developments in Lagos State and the Federal Capital Territory as part of a crackdown on violations of its building regulations.

The move, aimed at enforcing compliance, will affect several estates in both regions.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the FHA disclosed that it would begin regularising property documents for allottees who had built structures without proper approval or deviated from the original plans.

“The exercise is to afford allottees in FHA estates in these zones who built without approval, carried out development outside the granted approval, engaged in unapproved land annexation, alteration of prototype houses, deviation from approved building plans, unapproved mergers, and subdivisions, the opportunity to regularise their property documents,” the statement read.

Among the affected estates in Lagos are Festac Town, Gowon Estate, Isheri Olofin 1 and 2, Satellite 2 Navy Town, and several others in the Egan and Esuti areas.

Similarly, in Abuja, the estates under scrutiny include Gwarinpa, Lugbe, Kubwa, Maitama, Asokoro, Karu, and Apo/Guzape.

FHA has urged affected individuals to visit its designated offices to regularise their property documents.

“The affected persons in Lagos are to visit the office of the Zonal Manager, FHA South West Zone, 211 Road, Festac Town Lagos, while those in Abuja are to visit the office of the Executive Director, Estate Services at the Head Office, 26 Julius Nyerere Crescent, Asokoro, Abuja,” the release further emphasised.

The FHA also warned that enforcement measures would begin after the expiration of notices issued via radio announcements, signalling its intent to take action against non-compliant property owners.
