According to them, the labour party candidate violated the Electoral Act on campaign funding.
According to a report by Daily Trust, a group under the APC presidential candidate Ahmed Tinubu has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify the Labour Party presidential candidate after the Peter Obi Diaspora support groups promised to raise 150 million dollars to support his 2023 presidential ambition, and also promised to raise another 100 billion naira from his Nigerian Supporters (obidients).
Julius Abure, the National chairman of the labour party will be in charge of the crowdfund raising activities.
According to Adebanjo Moyosore of the Tinubu-Shettima Connect, the act by Peter Obi’s supporters to raise funds for his presidential ambition is against the country’s electoral laws and has promised to file a suit to seek the disqualification of Peter Obi from the race.
Quoting the Constitution, according to Section 85 of the Electoral Act, any political party that holds or possesses any fund outside Nigeria in contravention of Section 225 of the Constitution, commits an offence and shall, on conviction, forfeit the funds or assets purchased with such funds to the commission, and in addition, may be liable to a fine of at least N5 million.
