Bernard Odoh, an All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for governor of Ebonyi State, was ambushed by gunmen on Thursday in Okpoto, Ishielu local government area.
Odoh was unharmed in the attack, but his driver passed away as a result of the accident’s injuries.
The APGA contender called the act an assassination attempt when he reported the event to journalists on Friday.
Two officers who were part of his security detail, he said, suffered critical injuries as a result of the incident.
Odoh said that the attack was carried out by members of the Ebubeagu security network in the South-East.
In the past two years, there have been numerous violent episodes in Ebonyi and other South-Eastern states, with politicians and other notable locals being slain or kidnapped by non-state actors.
