Fans and pundits could not believe their eyes a lacklustre-looking Chelsea team struggled against their less illustrious Croatian opponents. Against Zagreb, Chelsea appeared bereft of ideas in the midfield as nobody could the basics of creativity and “blocking 4”. Kovacic could not do more in the absence of Kante. It might be too early to conclude just yet, with few thus far played, Koulibaly might just be an overrated and overpriced defender after his underwhelming performances since in the Blues shirt.
Another obvious issue that made Chelsea lose their game against Zagreb, was Thomas Tuchel’s predictable tactics and formations. Since the beginning of this season, anybody could easily predict Chelsea’s first eleven and tactics before every game. The Chelsea manager might have got away with it last season, but after just few matches this season, the chickens are finally coming home to roost!
At the moment, Chelsea’s chances of winning laurels this season appear dim, because like Tuchel declared after their defeat against Zagreb, everything is missing in this team!
