The Action Democratic Party [ADP] Presidential candidate, Sani Yabagi in an interview with Channels Tv has spoken about the prolonged issue ASUU strike in Universities. According to Mr. Sani, education in the Nigeria has been taken with levity hands.
He argued that the money ASUU is currently demanding for is in line with the proportion being given by the United Nations regarding educational funding. He stated categorically that the sum of 1.1 trillion naira is never too much to breathe life into the dying sector.
He said, ”It’s like we don’t understand the role of education or maybe because it doesn’t directly affect us, we are toying with it. My call is that the Federal government should find a way that we can settle these bills. The ASUU talks about 1.1 trillion naira that is for the revitalization of the educational sector.
I don’t think 1.1 trillion naira is too much if you look at what even the UN has said about the percentage of the educational budget, it should be 17 percent minimum. We have a budget of about 19 trillion naira and that’s less than ten percent of that budget which we want to put. 1.1 trillion naira in the education sector in Nigeria is never too much to revitalize the sector.”
