The APC New Media Directorate is deeply alarmed and outraged by the ongoing sinister attempts by Governor Godwin Obaseki and the PDP to manipulate the forthcoming elections in Edo State through the criminal mopping up of voters’ cards. This brazen act of voter suppression is not only a slap in the face of democracy but also a direct assault on the future of every Edo citizen. We cannot remain silent in the face of such blatant disenfranchisement.
Just yesterday, a shocking video surfaced from Ikpoba Okha LGA, exposing the unholy alliance between INEC staff and the PDP in this reprehensible act. A courageous lady in the video laid bare how voters’ cards are being collected en masse to tilt the election in favor of the PDP. This is not just an isolated incident; it is a calculated and coordinated attack on our right to choose our leaders freely. The cries from the opposition parties, especially the APC and LP, have fallen on deaf ears, as relevant authorities seem to have turned a blind eye to this ongoing electoral fraud. This is not just negligence; it is complicity.
Our investigations reveal that this injustice is not limited to one area. Across the state, particularly in Unit 6 (Edokha Primary School, Ukhomedokha), Ward 10 (Okpekpe), APC members who recently registered for their PVCs are now discovering that their cards are missing. This pattern is repeating itself throughout Edo State, targeting those who oppose the current regime. The question we must ask is this: why is the PDP, under Obaseki’s leadership, so desperate to suppress the votes of the very people they claim to serve? If Obaseki’s administration has truly served the people well, why resort to such desperate and despicable tactics?
The truth is clear: the PDP knows that they have lost the trust and confidence of the people of Edo State. This latest act of voter card manipulation is a desperate attempt to cling to power at all costs. But let it be known that Edo State is not for sale. We, the people of Edo, will not stand by and watch as our future is mortgaged by those who have failed us time and time again.
To the PDP and Governor Obaseki, we say this: your time is up. The people of Edo have seen through your deceit, and no amount of manipulation will shield you from the judgment of the people. Any attempt to impose Asue Ighodalo, a stranger with no connection to the struggles and aspirations of our people, as a successor to your failed administration will not be accepted. Edo State deserves a leader who understands our pains, not someone handpicked by a failed governor to continue a legacy of failure.
To all Edo citizens, this is a call to action. We must stand together to protect our democracy. The power of the people is greater than the people in power. Let us ensure that our voices are heard and that our votes count. We must demand accountability from INEC and ensure that every Edo citizen has the right to exercise their franchise freely and fairly. We owe it to ourselves, to our children, and to the future of Edo State.
