The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the installation of 1,600 solar-powered streetlights and the sinking of 54 boreholes across the state.

The projects will be implemented in communities across the three senatorial districts of the state.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Engagement (Ondo Central), Mr Oluwafemi Fadairo, disclosed this at a programme tagged ‘The Platform’, organised by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Ondo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists on Thursday in Akure.

According to him, the governor is prioritising investment at the local level, as well as at the state level, following years of alleged neglect of grassroots communities.

Fadairo stated, “Governor Aiyedatiwa is committed to alleviating the suffering in our communities. He has been in office for less than a year, and I believe his four-year term will surpass the achievements of some past administrations.

He has a listening ear, and the atmosphere in the state is calm due to his exemplary leadership. These are the achievements I’ve facilitated in the past two months as SSA for the central district.”

He continued, “The governor has also approved 54 boreholes across the state, to be supervised directly by our office in the highlighted communities. Additionally, 1,600 solar-powered streetlights will be installed across the three senatorial districts in the first phase. The second phase will commence upon completion of the first. During our community engagements, we identified common requests, such as solar lighting and better roads for transporting goods.”

Fadairo added that streetlights are essential for deterring criminals who use the bush to carry out their activities. “Our job is to report back to the governor. Two weeks ago, the Ministry of Water Resources and my office secured approval for the resuscitation of the Owena Dam, which is now ongoing.”

The governor’s aide also revealed that the government had approved the construction of 20 km of roads in each of the 18 local government areas.

“In the coming weeks, significant road infrastructure projects will commence across the state. This is part of the governor’s commitment to delivering on his promises, and he has demonstrated the will and zeal to serve the people, even before completing his first year in office,” Fadairo said.

He urged the people of Ondo State to vote for Governor Aiyedatiwa in the forthcoming governorship election on 16 November, emphasising the governor’s achievements as a reason for continued support.
