Ahead of the anticipated 10,000 students’ march against electoral violence in Edo State the state Police Command has pledged to provide maximum security for the event.

The assurance was given by the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, CP Nemo Edwin-Iwo, during a courtesy visit from the National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Council Edo State chapter.

The visit took place at his office in Benin City on Tuesday.

Edwin-Iwo in a statement by NANS’s Senate President, Akinteye Babatunde, on Wednesday, expressed his commitment to ensuring a secure environment for the march.

The statement reads, “I can assure you all of maximum security. We are here to protect you all. We will not allow any infiltration. We will be there to provide security to make sure everything goes smoothly.”

He thanked the NANS leaders for their proactive engagement and reassured them of the deployment of substantial human and operational resources to uphold law and order during the event.

He also issued a stern warning to potential troublemakers, saying, “Any attempt to disrupt the peace will be met with the full force of the law.”

During the visit, the Chairman of the NANS Edo state chapter, Ehis Omuokhonlen, thanked Edwin-Iwo for his warm reception and assured him of NANS’ cooperation.

He said, “We appreciate the CP’s commitment to our safety and the resources allocated for this event,” Omuokhonlen said.

He also outlined the specific plans for the march, including the approved routes and expressed confidence in the ongoing collaboration between NANS and the Edo State Police Command under CP Edwin-Iwo’s leadership.

Omuokhonlen congratulated CP Edwin-Iwo on his recent appointment.

He stated, “We are pleased to work with CP Edwin-Iwo and believe that under his leadership, our partnership with the Edo Police Command will be strengthened.”

He reiterated that NANS remains committed to peaceful advocacy and constructive dialogue, emphasising that the march aims to promote electoral integrity and peaceful democratic processes.
