Members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, Anambra branch, have pleaded with the Anambara State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to reverse the cattle movement ban in the state immediately.
This pleading came on Monday according to reports by Punch Newspapers in response to the instructions issued to law enforcement agents by the governor concerning the ban of cattle movement by foot across all the communities of the state.
The report revealed that governor Charles met with the State’s Cattle Menace Committee over the weekend. It was at the meeting that he renewed the ban on Open grazing as it has been already signed into it law by the immediate past governor, Willie Obiano in 2021, but was never implemented.
The governor revealed that the implementation of the law as well as the Ranching Bill will commence in September and any one found defaulting will be treated as the law demands.
Responding to the news, the MACBAN members in the state appealed to governor Charles to give them a little time so that they can enlighten their members more on rearing their herds cautiously and obeying the laws of the land. They also pleaded that they have no where else to go if their businesses are suspended in the state since some of them were born and raised in Anambara by herder parents.
They promised to thread with caution and also protect the tree-planting scheme initiated by the state governor in a bid to fight the menaces of gully erosion.
The governor who promised to ensure that the Fulanis are given a conducive environment to do their business in the state but with full recognition of the law is yet to respond to their pleas as at Monday.
