Socio-political youth organisation in Igbo land, the Coalition of South-East Youth Leaders, has condemned the attack on the Chairman of Capital Oil and Gas Limited, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, by suspected hoodlums.
According to the group, the attack on Senator Ubah, which took place at Enugwu Ukwu, in the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, Sunday evening, was an affront to Igbo land, that hitherto was adjudged the most peaceful across the country.
The group stated this in a statement signed by its President-General, Chief Goodluck Ibem, a copy of which was made available to The PUNCH on Monday. It called on the security agencies to swing into action and unravel those behind the attack.
The statement read, “The Coalition of South-East Youth Leaders, the apex socio-political youth group in the South-East geopolitical zone, condemns in strongest terms the wicked, barbaric, villainous and senseless attack on Ifeanyi Ubah’s convoy that led to the death of his aides and security agents attached to his convoy. The attack on our great son on Igbo soil is an affront to Igbo nation.
“We are really pained and disheartened to receive this heartbreaking news of how our youths just lost their lives within a swingle of an eye in broad daylight. What a wicked world!
“It is infelicitous that such senseless killing of innocent youths who have done nothing wrong is happening in Igboland, that was before now adjudged the most peaceful in all ramifications. Something is fishy in this very attack and we demand that security agencies must unravel those hoodlums behind the assassination attempt and their sponsors and bring them to justice.
“This vicious attack and assassination of our youths is a confirmation that enemies of Ndigbo have crept into our midst and they must be found by any means and flushed out immediately.
“The wicked activities of these criminals are destroying businesses in the South-East as some businessmen and women, who come from other parts of the country and outside the country to do business in Igboland are currently scared to do business in the zone because of fear of the activities of these senseless hoodlums.
“It is really worrisome, and something urgent must be done immediately to stop the nefarious activities of these hoodlums before things get out of hand.”
It added, “We sympathise with Senator Ifeanyi Ubah and the family of those aides and security agents who lost their precious lives to the senseless attack. It is really painful and heart-breaking.
“We sympathise with the good of Anambra State and the Executive Governor of the state, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, over the loss of lives in his state. We call on the governor to intensify and double his efforts to protect and secure the lives of the people.
“We call on the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Baba, and heads of other security agencies to immediately arrest and prosecute perpetrators of this dastardly act so that justice will be served.
“Delay, they say, is dangerous. Our security agents should get to work now. Our youths in the state should support the governor and security agents by gathering and giving credible information that will lead to the arrest of these criminals.”
