The main problem facing Chelsea FC
[ad_1]
The current performance of Chelsea in the Premier League (2022/23 season) despite the new signings, has been a major concern to all Chelsea fans and football pundits. They miraculously won three matches, drew one match and surprisingly loss two matches.
Despite sitting 5th on the league table with 10 points, the main problem is neither the personnel nor the managerial skills of Thomas Tuchel, rather it is collectively a performance-related problem. The players (especially the established ones) are underperforming; they have failed to live up to the expectations.
The likes of Havertz, Pulisic, Ziyech, Mount and Jorginho have not return to their best. In the three matches they won, Chelsea fans had their hearts in their mouths. They were not comprehensive wins. The loss to Leeds and Southampton were shocking as the players failed to turn up. The only match the players turned up was against Tottenham at Stamford bridge, which ended in a 2-2 draw. One wonders if Tuchel is running out of ideas.
The team is blessed with talented and creative players, who continue to create big goalscoring chances; but the attacking players continue to misfire. Neither the system used nor the technicality is to blame, the players do fail to perform well (except a few of them).
With the inclusion of new signings like Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana, Denis Zakaria and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, an improved performance is expected as the team jell. Competition among the players will also lead to better performance. And Thomas Tuchel must not rely on names, rather on better performing players, to prosecute Chelsea matches. Surely, better days are ahead.
