Police Rescue Abducted PDP Candidate.
Police operatives in Katsina State have rescued Hon Ibrahim Tafashiya, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Kankia Zone in the State House of Assembly for the 2023 general elections.
DAILY POST reports that the politician was abducted by terrorists on Saturday.
Spokesman of the police command, Superintendent Gambo Isah said the command swung into action immediately it received the distress call.

He said the Kankia Divisional Police Officer, SP Ilyasu Ibrahim led the policemen under his command to confront the hoodlums and engaged them in a fierce gun duel which led to the rescue of the PDP candidate.
Atiku Abubakar Meets Gov Candidates
The presidential flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has held a closed-door meeting with governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday in Abuja.
Atiku, his running mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, were in attendance at the closed-door meeting that was held at the former vice-president’s residence in Asokoro, Abuja.
The meeting may not be unconnected with the 2023 general elections, strategy and how the party will come out victorious.

In attendance were governorship candidates of Lagos, Ebonyi, Nassarawa, Sokoto, Kaduna, Zamfara, Delta, Plateau, Katsina, Lagos, Yobe, Niger, Kano, Jigawa, Benue, Borno and Kwara states.
ASUU Constitutes Seven-Man Committee To Tackle Smear Campaign.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities has constituted a seven-member committee to address what it tagged a smear media campaign against the union.
In a leaked letter of appointment addressed to one of the nominees, and signed by the union’s President, Emmanuel Osodeke, he tasked the committee with the responsibility to develop strategies to tackle the alleged media campaign against the union’s decision to continue with the industrial action.

The letter partly read, “ASUU is at a very critical stage of its struggle toward the survival of public universities in Nigeria. It has been observed that a lot of media propaganda to misinform and malign the union is ongoing. The union appreciates your efforts in responding to this media war.
Buhari, Obasanjo, Abiodun Eulogise Late Geographer, Mabogunje.
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has described the late Professor of Geography and Urban Regeneration, Akinlawon Mabogunje, as a distinguished public policy expert, an advocate of good governance, who was accessible and humble to all who came across him.
The President stated this at the funeral of the renowned geographer held on Saturday in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, Buhari noted that Mabogunje was a just man, who led by example throughout his life.
He noted that Mabogunje would live in the minds of many people as a great man for a long time, submitting that he was a decent man who served God with all his heart.
Accord Presidential Candidate, Imumolen Hails Buhari’s Neutral Stance.
Accord Party (AP) presidential candidate, Prof Christopher Imumolen has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his decision not to interfere in the 2023 elections.
The President had informed All Progressives Congress (APC) governors in Abuja that he would respect the wishes of the people by staying neutral.

Imumolen said the stance represents the biggest victory witnessed in the electoral process in over two decades of the country’s return to democratic rule.
The flagbearer noted that such neutrality would boost the confidence of both the contestants and voting public.
