Why I Backed a Southern Candidate in APC, but Support a Northerner in PDP -Ex-Gov. Shekarau

A former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, has revealed the reasons behind his diverse advocacy in the APC and PDP regarding the presidential candidates of both parties. During his interview on AIT News, the PDP chieftain discussed issues of national politics ahead of the 2023 presidential election.Addressing the topic, Shekarau said, “Going by the history of the PDP, the last president of the party was from the South. Out of the 16 years of the PDP government, 14 of those years were administered by a president from the South. Obasanjo had 8 years, while Goodluck Jonathan had 6 years which turned out to be a political problem from 2011. After Jonathan, no Northerner has governed through the PDP platform.
He continued, “When I was in the APC, I argued that, technically, the APC had no moral right to produce a northern presidential candidate after Muhammadu Buhari’s years of administration. However, that is in the party context. I made my stand very clear in the APC. For the PDP, if you decide to be selfish, you may argue that a Northerner has been in government. However, the said Northerner governed on the platform of another party.
